Troops Deployed for Mobile Evangelism
For less than 20 years, the people of Ukraine, Russia, and Eastern Europe have been out from under the oppressive thumb of communism, but the suffering continues. The hopelessness that results from communism still lingers. These countries have the highest suicide rate, the highest divorce rate, and the highest prison population in the world. Drug use and abortion numbers are horrifying. HIV/AIDS is spreading faster in Eastern Europe than in any other part of the world.
Sergei Golovin and his team of dedicated workers at Good News Productions, International in Ukraine see this need. They are using what might seem a "normal" idea to us, but for them, it is a revolutionary approach. They are going as "mobile troops" using GNPI materials to tell The Story—the story of hope in Jesus that many have never heard. One project they are using, that people really seem to connect with is Urok (The Lesson). Urok uses science and Christian principals to show that life begins at conception and how purity of heart, body, and mind can mend broken lives. After sending out a few staff members to do workshops for churches and others in ministry, word is spreading and requests are coming in.
Sergei shared this information and request for prayer:
"Our 'mobile troop' of Vadim (left) and Misha (right) made a very successful landing at the city of Melitopol, Ukraine. Vadim and Misha presented our resources and strategy on Youth Purity based on Urok (The Lesson), and Science and the Bible (the importance of the Genesis account in Christian life and doctrine). About 400, mostly young people, attended the workshops. The church that hosted the workshops is very mission-minded and interested in training programs for its members. We are most likely going to do more seminars and conferences for them. Please pray for this partnership development.
Another mobile troop, Lena (left) and Zhenya (right), went to Voronyezh in Central Russia to present workshops on youth evangelism at a youth conference. The conference is like an orientation for young Christians in today’s culture; it is to help youth see moral values in the arts and other aesthetic aspects of the culture in order to use them as a tool for evangelism. Zhenya presented a workshop on spreading the Good News among the counter-cultures, while Lena focused on using the Internet for evangelism. This was the very first experience for Lena in doing the workshop herself. Please pray for Lena and for the Lord’s guidance as she continues to take advantage of opportunities to speak as the Lord leads her. Please pray for listeners to be open."
