Passing the Torch
Ziden and Helen Nutt

Guided by a Board of Directors composed of seasoned Christian leaders, Ziden Nutt has functioned as Visionary, Administrator, Personnel Director, Spokesman, Field Coordinator, and more.  Ask a Board member, and they will tell you Ziden is a unique blend of skills, wisdom, spirit and humility seldom found in a single individual.  These dynamics have served the ministry well during 30 years of phenomenal development.  Yet as Ziden led Good News Productions, International, he was determined that it be God’s ministry not Ziden Nutt’s.  He was determined that the work continue and grow beyond his leadership.  Years ago he asked the Board of Directors to prepare for that eventuality.

The Board realized two things:

  • It is extremely unlikely that there is another “Ziden” out there.
  • The ministry was becoming large enough that no one person should be asked to wear all those hats, even if they could.

Since 1999, at Ziden’s request, he and the Board of Directors have been working together to develop a “transition strategy,” which would define an organizational structure and a leadership plan to guide the growth of the ministry into the 21st century.  Much prayer and thought have gone into this effort, and God has led them to the right leaders at the right time, to keep the ministry focused as it grows into this century. Over the last six years, that plan has been refined, adopted, and implemented. The pivotal step in the transition strategy took effect January 1, 2006, when Rich Sheeley accepted the responsibility of Executive Director.

Rich SheeleyDonald Leow, Regional Director for GNPI-Singapore, had this to say,  “Having worked with Rich for the last nine years, I have found him to be a visionary with a persevering spirit. He brings with him to the work at GNPI high standards, settling for only the best in quality and excellence as is honoring to the Lord. He is a man of integrity.”

In 2003, Rich was appointed International Director for GNPI, and in 2004, he and his family returned to Joplin, Missouri.  He has now accepted the responsibility of Executive Director for Good News Productions, International. The Director of Operations and the Director of Development have each accepted additional responsibilities to help make this transition possible.

A Word from Ziden

“I have observed Rich in Asia for twenty years.  While there, we began working closely together as he used materials being produced by GNPI.  His passion for reaching the lost with the Gospel of Christ and his creativity in using various forms of communication technology were very impressive.

We each came to the conclusion that materials needed to be produced in the Chinese language, and he was willing to commit to leading the task.  Rich’s expertise and creativity in research, production, and in evangelism and training programs have certainly revealed the wisdom of appointing him as Executive Director of GNPI. To now see him as Executive Director of this unique global ministry is a delight.  His spirit of humility and service stand out and cause many to admire and respect him and his family.”

Bio on Rich

Tom NuttTom is a graduate of Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, Missouri, receiving the honor of Outstanding Student from the school of drafting and design. With 17 years at GNPI and a lifetime as Ziden and Helen’s son, he knows the ministry, its mission, and its partners as well as anyone. Tom became an  “official” staff member in 1988, initially working with satellite broadcasting, set construction, and general maintenance. In 2001, the Board of Directors asked Tom to accept the position of Director of Operations, taking advantage of his intricate knowledge of the ministry and believing he could make a tremendous contribution to the expansion of GNPI. They have not been disappointed. Therefore, Tom is one of three men in place to be part of the new leadership team.

Bio on Tom

We want you to know that we at GNPI – in Joplin and in each regional center – are enthused about the transition plan and the very conscientious way it has been adopted. We see it as a ministry growth plan, and to us “ministry growth” means finding the best technology to most effectively reach more people groups with God’s Good News.
